Vote NO on Prop. 98 - Save Affordable Housing in California!

Many people don't realize there's an important election approaching on Tuesday, June 3rd, and proponents of Proposition 98, also deemed the "Hidden Agendas Scheme" or "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing Initiative" are banking on that fact.

Proposition 98 is one of two statewide initiatives on the June ballot whose outcome will determine the future of affordable housing and environmental protections for all Californians. The ACLU/SC strongly urges you to vote NO on the so-called "eminent domain" initiative and join us in the fight to ensure voters know that Prop. 98 is full of hidden provisions that would hurt Californians.

Don't be deceived. While proponents want California voters to believe they'll be supporting eminent domain reform, their underlying motive for passing Prop. 98 is to eliminate rent control, eviscerate local land use planning regulations, gut environmental protections and undermine public water projects that ensure safe and adequate supply of drinking water.

By radically restricting the government's power to enact and enforce laws relating to anti-discrimination (by severely eroding renter protections and fair evictions processes), rent control, affordable housing requirements, and environmental protections, Prop. 98 leaves the door open for discrimination of the basis of age, race, physical ability and income among many other factors.

That's why the ACLU/SC has joined a broad coalition of social justice, civil rights and community organizations fighting to defeat this misleading measure.
