The Honorable Patricia Wald, a trailblazing judge, a human rights advocate, a public interest lawyer and a role model for women is Alliance for Justice's 2008 Champion of Justice. As a young woman, Patricia Wald chose law school as "a good way to play a role in the protection of working class people." This resolve took her from Yale Law School to Neighborhood Legal Services and on to the Carter Administration Justice Department. Selected by President Carter to serve on the prestigious U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, she was the first woman to serve on that court and was its chief judge from 1986 to 1991. She also served for two years in The Hague at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia.

Clarence Page, award-winning journalist, is this year's Keynote Speaker. A columnist and member of the editorial staff of the Chicago Tribune, he is also a frequent panelist on The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer and The McLaughlin Group. Clarence has won a Pulitzer Prize for commentary, an Illinois UPI Award for community service, and the ACLU James P. McGuire Award for his columns on constitutional rights. He also participated in a 1972 Pulitzer Prize winning Chicago Tribune Task Force series on voter fraud.

Eleanor D. Acheson is vice president and General Counsel of Amtrak and former Assistant Attorney General of Department of Justice, Office of Policy Development. Eldie will introduce and present the Champion of Justice Award.

Our master of ceremonies will be Eleanor Clift, contributing editor for Newsweek magazine and panelist on The McLaughlin Group.
