In this Congress, there are precious few opportunities for civil rights and civil liberties proponents to challenge the civil liberties rollbacks of the USA PATRIOT Act and the Ashcroft Justice Department. But funding bills do present an opportunity to be heard, and Representatives Sanders, Otter, and Conyers are planning to introduce an amendment that would de-fund the FBI's library and bookstore spying program.

What you read is YOUR business, not the federal government’s – at least, that was true until the USA PATRIOT Act was passed virtually without Congressional scrutiny in the wake of 9/11.

Take action to support the Sanders-Otter-Conyers Amendment to the Commerce, Justice, State, and Judiciary Appropriations Bill of 2004.
