Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit The ACLU of Washington Action Center. The short explanation of this alert was: Three states and over 233 communities across the nation have passed civil liberties resolutions. Cities, towns, counties across the country -- along with the states of Vermont, Alaska, and Hawaii-- have passed resolutions that include expressions of concern regarding the USA PATRIOT Act. Eighteen communities in Washington have adopted resolutions including: King County, Seattle, Olympia, Tacoma, Bellingham, Snoqualmie, Oroville, Tonasket, Jefferson County, Clallam County, Port Townsend, Vashon-Maury Island, Bainbridge Island, Riverside, San Juan County, and student associations at the University of Washington, Washington State University and Western Washington University. House Joint Memorial 4033 sends the message to Congress that the State of Washington is committed to protecting the civil liberties and civil rights of all Washington residents. Actions taken under the USA PATRIOT Act have infringed upon citizens’ rights to privacy, due process, and freedom from undue scrutiny or surveillance. This resolution not only supports civil liberties but supports the SAFE Act, a bipartisan act which would amend and clarify several provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act.
