What's At Stake?Support Transparency in State SpendingBack in 2006 President Bush signed S. 2590, the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act, into law. The legislation created usaspending.gov, a searchable online database that the general public can use to track the flow of hundreds of billions of dollars in federal spending. The National Taxpayers Union played a major role in the passage of this legislation. Since then, NTU has been working diligently and successfully to increase transparency on the state level. In April, 2007, three other organizations joined NTU to found the Show Me The Spending Coalition effort. Now, the Coalition has over 30 members. And since the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act passed, many states, including Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska, and Missouri, have developed their own spending transparency databases.
