It is imperative that your Legislators hears your concerns today! This seriously flawed proposal will hurt LAUSD by creating a confusing bureaucracy that diminishes accountability, disenfranchises voters, increases costs to the district and cities and most importantly will not directly increase student achievement. Recent amendments to this bill actually make it more harmful, by further diffusing accountability and convoluting decision making, which will make it impossible for anybody to effectively govern the district. Additional amendments include an astounding provision that transfers liability for the actions of officials from 27 cities to the school district and shuts the public out of budget and contracting decisions. This proposal is not only an assault on the fundamental role school district governing boards play in a democratic society as the only true representatives for ensuring educational quality, it also sets a dangerous precedent that poses a risk for other school districts. Such fundamental changes to the governance of schools should not be made by Please send a letter to your Legislators urging him or her to vote NO when AB 1381 is heard on the floor. CSBA has prepared a sample letter for you to send to your Legislators, which you may modify by typing in the box.
