Please have a heart and help save Linn House, a former AIDS hospice care facility now used as a center for crucial health care operations serving thousands of Angelenos living with HIV/AIDS. Linn House has always been-and continues to be-used to save lives.

Twenty-one years ago, an AIDS diagnosis was tantamount to a death sentence. The most anyone could do was help people have a dignified death. AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) rose to that challenge and built and operated residential AIDS hospices. In 1995, using State and City of Los Angeles loans AHF opened Linn House, its third and final hospice.

When the revolution in treatment turned AIDS into a chronic, manageable disease, AHF converted Linn House into a center for other crucial HIV/AIDS services including nursing care management and health care operations serving thousands of Angelenos living with HIV/AIDS.

Now, actions of City bureaucrats are threatening Linn House with closure. Adhering to a fourteen-year-old loan contract, the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Housing Department appear to be telling AHF that they must operate Linn House for services that the majority of people thankfully no longer need. It seems that the City would prefer that no services be provided, rather than the valuable, lifesaving services that are provided there today.

I personally appeal to you, Mr. Mayor, to have a heart. Please step into this matter to help bring about a fair resolution that will not hurt Los Angeles' largest AIDS organization or the HIV/AIDS patients and clients they serve.
