Canadian Citizens: Sign to Show Your Support

Canada is home to the Fauna Foundation – the only chimpanzee sanctuary in Canada – and one of the first sanctuaries to rescue chimpanzees from U.S. laboratories.

Citizens of Canada can continue this tradition of helping chimpanzees by signing the petition to prohibit research on chimpanzees in their country – adding Canada to the growing list of countries that have banned or limited the use of chimpanzees in research.

Project R&R’s investigations (as well as information from Canadian animal protection groups) have turned up only one recent study involving chimpanzees which likely relies on the use of biological samples from the U.S.  However, in the absence of a country-wide ban, it is possible that private companies may be using chimpanzees or that the use of biological samples from U.S. chimpanzees but could be more pervasive than known. To date, there is no indication that living chimpanzees are currently being used in Canadian research. However, complete information is not available.

Project R&R - Canadian Petition to End Chimpanzee Research in Canada

In solidarity with Project R&R's efforts to end chimpanzee research in the United States - the largest remaining user of chimpanzees in the world - we urge Canada to join the effort to ban the use of chimpanzees in research.

The time has come for the United States to join the moral and humane community of countries like Great Britain, Austria, Japan, the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, and the Balearic Islands have either banned or severely limited the use of chimpanzees and other great apes in research.
