We're sorry, this alert is no longer available.
The short explanation of this alert was:
Citizens' Environmental Coalition just released a report, "Cancer Prevention Through Pollution Prevention: State Policies to Reduce the Public's Exposure to Carcinogens," showing that cancer risks and incidence in New York are far too high. (Read the report and fact sheet.)
The report recommends five actions that Governor Spitzer can take to reduce cancer incidence in New York State: 1) promote environmentally preferable purchasing by state agencies; 2) regulate cancer-causing PBTs; 3) follow successful cancer prevention activities of other states; 4) promote alternatives to carcinogens; and 5) convene a high-level state agency work group to develop a state plan to prevent cancer.
Governor Spitzer needs to know that change is necessary if we are to build a cancer-free future for New York State. Use the form on this page to send the Governor a letter encouraging him to follow these five actions. No issue is more important than the health of our families, communities, and environment.
