Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit NTU's Taxpayer Action Center. The short explanation of this alert was: Under the guise of a "cap-and-trade" energy policy, the U.S. Senate will debate a bill soon that would increase government's take by more than a trillion dollars! The "Climate Security Act," introduced by Senators Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and John Warner (R-VA), would impose a cap on greenhouse gas emissions, principally carbon dioxide, and would establish a trading system for emissions allowances.
This bill represents an enormous expansion of government's size and power. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the feds would get their hands on an extra $1.2 trillion. In addition, it would impose severe regulatory burdens on domestic industry while restricting trade. If passed, this bill would dramatically harm our economic growth, job expansion, and international competitiveness. Perhaps most important, it would raise the already-high prices you pay for the energy you need. Take action now to tell your Senator to oppose this ill-conceived scheme!
