Take Action

Campaign Unavailable

We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit Ohio Environmental Council.

The short explanation of this alert was:

The passage of the Great Lakes Compact is the first step in protecting our Great LakeLake Erie.  The Great Lakes Compact calls on each Great Lakes state to develop a water conservation and management program.  Ohio will begin this process of implementing the requirement early next year, so be sure to stay tuned!  But in the meantime, please thank both U.S. Senators George Voinovich and Sherrod Brown and your respective Congressional member, if they voted “yes” for the Compact.

It is critically important that we protect Lake Erie because of all it offers to Ohio:

  • It produces more fish for human consumption than the other four lakes combined.
  • More than seven million people annually visit Lake Erie to wildlife watch, reconnect with friends and family, hunt, boat and fish.
  • Lake Erie generates roughly $10 billion in revenue each year from travel and tourism – and supplies drinking water to nearly 2.5 million Ohioans.
