When the Supreme Court upheld the federal abortion ban last April, pro-choice members of Congress took a stand to protect abortion access by introducing the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). FOCA would safeguard a woman's ability to make reproductive choices without interference from the government.

* FOCA will restore the reproductive rights recognized under the vision expressed in 1973 in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, before legislatures and courts eroded these rights. * Since Roe v. Wade, the right to choose abortion has been systematically eroded by anti-choice legislators in many states. * FOCA will secure the right to choose by establishing a federal law that will guarantee reproductive freedom for future generations of American women. This guarantee will protect women’s rights even if President Bush and an anti-choice Supreme Court are successful in reversing Roe v. Wade or enacting even more restrictions on our right to choose.
