The short explanation of this alert was:

President Bush placed anti-environmental special interests over the public interest with his nomination of William Myers, a former lobbyist for mining and grazing interests, to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, a critically important federal court that oversees nearly 500 million acres of western public lands.

Myers, whose nomination may be voted on in the Senate Judiciary committee this week, is a career anti-environmental advocate. He recently served as the top lawyer at the Interior Department, aggressively weakening the same environmental laws that he formerly attacked as a lobbyist for the grazing and mining industries. Rather than serving as an impartial judge, we can expect that Myers will continue supporting the special interests that have paid his salary for much of his professional career if he receives a lifetime judicial appointment.

Help stop President Bush from putting an extreme anti-environmentalist on an important federal court. Please contact your senators today and tell them to oppose the nomination of William Myers.

A sample letter is provided (below) for you to use as a guide. Please remember that your Senators pay more attention to your views when you personalize your letter.
