The Prevention First Act will help reduce the rate of unintended pregnancy, reduce the rate of abortion, and improve women’s access to healthcare.
The U.S. has one of the highest rates of unintended pregnancy in the world. Half of all pregnancies in the U.S. are unintended.
We can reduce the rate of unintended pregnancies in the U.S. and improve women’s reproductive lives by expanding access to family planning services; promoting comprehensive, medically accurate sex education; ensuring that contraceptives are covered by insurance companies, and educating women about emergency contraception.
The medical community knows that preventive healthcare is the best healthcare—it saves money, saves time, and improves our patients’ lives.
The majority of Americans support the goals of the Prevention First Act: 78% support comprehensive sex education in schools, 79% support access to emergency contraception for sexual assault survivors, and 66% believe health insurance policies should cover prescription contraception.
