Dear Director:
I am writing as a supporter of Project R&R: Release and Restitution for Chimpanzees in U.S. Laboratories to urge you to disclose the names and other requested information of each and every one of the chimpanzees currently held at [name of facility].
Individuals like Manny - who has spent decades in different laboratories - or twin brothers, Hunter and Lyons, now 21 years old and separated to different facilities deserve to be known.
The American public cares deeply about chimpanzees in research labs and refuses to allow them to remain anonymous and behind bars.
Each of the approximately 1,300 chimpanzees now being used or housed by federally supported/operated labs has a name, an identity and a unique story that must not be buried by the bureaucracy that seeks instead to treat them like mere research resources.
I lend my name in strong support of Project R&R's goal to end the use of all chimpanzees in all U.S. research and to urge you to respond appropriately and timely to the duly filed request(s). Release the names, genders, dates of birth, and lab identification numbers of all chimpanzees currently held at your facility.
The public has a right to know and the chimpanzees have a right to be known.
Sincerely,
NOTE: the appropriate director's name and facility name and address will appear on the actual letter
