Subject: Justice for All
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
As your constituent, I urge you to vote Yes on the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.
The rights of all employees have been severely hurt by the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling against Ms. Ledbetter's claim limiting access to the courts to pursue claims of pay discrimination. These rights will be restored by the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which has passed in the U.S. House of Representatives.
We now ask you to pass the bill in the Senate, and to vote No on all amendments.
On behalf of myself and the employees who work to make this country great, I thank you.
Sincerely,
|

The Center for Inquiry has always opposed discrimination. We showed our concern for equal pay for all by supporting the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in the House. The act righted a wrong that the U. S. Supreme Court inflicted on Ms. Ledbetter when it ruled that she had waited too long to file her wage discrimination complaint and so could not receive compensation for wages lost. The Supreme Court decision affected all employees who are victims of pay discrimination—women or men, African American, Hispanic, or white—and denied access to the courts to redress legitimate grievances, something that CFI considers a fundamental right.
