Tell UC: No Healthcare Cost-shifting to UC Employees!

At a meeting with UC unions on August 7, UC announced soaring premium increases for 2008. Refusing to give specific information, UC said only that premium rates would increase by "double-digits." UC refused to reveal how much of these increases they would pay, and how much they would be passing on to employees and their families. In 2007, UC increased employee rates an average of 38%, while UC paid only an 11.7% increase. We cannot allow UC to continue shifting costs onto UC employees and their families.

CNA, together with the UC Union Coalition, is demanding an immediate end to cost-shifting.

Subject: UC Nurses Demand No Cost-Shifting of Healthcare Premiums!

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As a UC Nurse, I vehemently oppose further cost-shifting of healthcare premiums to UC employees in 2008.

In 2007, UC increased employee rates an average of 38%, while UC's rates went up only 11.7%.

I am shocked that UC continues to cap its executives' premium increases for those making over $129,000, while passing on costs to frontline staff at the University.

UC families cannot afford further cost-shifting.

We demand an immediate end to cost-shifting!

No paycuts for healthcare!

Sincerely,

In 2008, UC plans to continue cost-shifting health care premiums to workers and their families.
UC families cannot afford further Cost-shifting.

As hospital and campus workers at the most prestigious Medical Centers and University in our state, we are already paid up to 30% below our colleagues comparator hospitals and community colleges. This profoundly affects our ability to recruit and retain quality staff.
