Dear RN Friend,
The U.S. House of Representatives is on the verge of voting
for healthcare reform, but big business and the insurance
industry are trying to strip away the ability of states to more
easily enact single-payer systems, like SB 810 in California.
Known as the Kucinich amendment, passed on a bipartisan basis
by a key House committee, this provision would exempt states
that enact improved Medicare-type programs for all residents
from the onerous limitations contained in the federal law ERISA.
Right now, nurses need to tell Congressional leaders that we
need the Kucinich amendment – it's our best hope to solve
the healthcare crisis in our states, and move our states away
from the bailout for the insurance companies that falls far
short of the real reform our patients need.
TAKE ACTION - CALL
NOW!
Please call the floor managers for healthcare reform
in the U.S. House:

- Representative Henry

The message is simple: Keep the Kucinich
Amendment!
U.S. House of Representatives Switchboard:
(202) 225-3121
Nurses and our allies have worked tirelessly to win real
reform that guarantees a single standard of quality care for
all, that enables us to exercise our clinical judgment, that
protects our patients and solves this crisis with real cost
control, comprehensive benefits, and complete choice of
provider. And that puts an end, once and for all, to
disgraceful horror stories of insurance companies denying needed
medical treatment just because they don't want to pay for
it.
But we're not getting Congress to do it, so we need to move
our fight to the states. The Kucinich amendment helps us carry
our healthcare reform advocacy to the state houses from Augusta
to Harrisburg, from Springfield to Sacramento.
