Subject: Support House Version of Stimulus Bill

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I'm writing to urge you to support the House version of the federal economic stimulus bill that would better protect Florida Medicaid and Medicaid consumers.

I support the creation of this bill to save jobs as well as to protect Floridians from suffering caused by a loss of income and health insurance coverage.

Sincerely,

Campaign Launched:
February 02, 2009

Background Information

Why should health care advocates care?

The stimulus bill includes several pieces that are critical to the health of Floridians hit hard by the recession as well as to jump-starting the economy. These include:

1.  Significant additional federal Medicaid matching funds that can be used to restore earlier Medicaid cuts as well as prevent future cuts.

2.  Payment of 65% of laid-off workers' COBRA premiums, allowing them to continue their health coverage.

3.  Short-term Medicaid eligibility for unemployed workers and their families.

4.  Other short-term boosts to the safety net, including extra food stamps and unemployment compensation.
