Copyright provides a property right to creators that is treated with as much respect as we would accord to the California real estate under Google's vast Mountain View "campus," or the riches of elite universities like Stanford. Copyright allows artistic creators the same entrepreneurial protections as Web 2.0 billionaires, and protects them from having to "take the king's shilling" by having their work corporatized by commercial special interests through advertising. These rights are now under attack by Google through many activities that are arguably "in your face" attacks on copyrights: Google Print, YouTube, its apparent active and direct support of unlicensed movie download websites, as well as itssupport of the Stanford Law School's "Fair Use Project" which is currently suing the estate of James Joyce for protecting the value of Joyce's works. So we ask the question: Can Art Survive Google?
