This week, Governor Pawlenty announced his recommended unallotments to solve the remaining deficit in the state budget. The five programs on Heading Home Minnesota’s legislative agenda were not on the list. The HHM focus on preserving homeless programs was largely successful. But cuts in other programs that provide services to residents in supportive housing, prevention, outreach, and support for counties and cities highlight the current challenge, as the momentum and successes of the efforts to end homelessness collide with growing homelessness and the dramatic change in public and private funding. Project Homeless Connect Continues Success in Minnesota; Serves 9,256 People Experiencing Homelessness During 2008
Project Homeless Connect is a one-day, "one-stop shop" approach to providing and coordinating services for people who are experiencing homelessness. Cathy ten Broeke of Minneapolis Among Group of Leaders in Efforts to End Homelessness Invited to Meet with Obama Administration
Cathy ten Broeke, Coordinator to End Homelessness for Minneapolis and Hennepin County, was one of eight leaders from around the country invited by the Obama Administration to Washington, D.C. on May 29, 2009, for a series of meetings with key officials. The purpose of the meeting was to advise the Obama Administration on priority strategies for ending homelessness. Read more...

Ground Breaking of 'Lincoln Place' - First Large-Scale Supportive Housing for Young Adults in Metro Suburbs
On June 4, dozens of people gathered in Eagan for the ground breaking of Lincoln Place, the first suburban large-scale supportive housing development in Minnesota for young adults. Lincoln Place will provide 24 units of supportive housing for young adults ages 18-25 in need of affordable housing and support services. Read more...

Blue Earth County Board Hears Final Report on Evaluation of Supportive Housing and Managed Care Pilot
On Tuesday, May 12, members of the Blue Earth County Board learned that their original instincts were correct: changing the way we address long-term homelessness can produce better results for taxpayers and homeless people. Board members heard the results from the Hearth Connection's Supportive Housing and Managed Care Pilot , an experiment in which Blue Earth County was one of two original participants. The pilot project - both in Blue Earth and Ramsey counties – concluded that those served had highly complex needs, that their lives improved while they were in supportive housing, and that the intervention caused desirable shifts in costs associated with their care. The Heading Home Minnesota Steering Committee, co-chaired by Jim Frey of the Frey Foundation and by Carleen Rhodes of the Minnesota and Saint Paul Community Foundations, consists of community leaders from the public, business, nonprofit, faith, and philanthropic sectors. The work is led by Executive Director Kit Hadley.
