Expanding Maine's
Endangered Species List
The
Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee of the Maine Legislature
is considering a bill to add 14 animals to the state’s
list of endangered and threatened species, but in response to
concerns raised by hunters, legislators may not include the
Barrow's goldeneye. Lawmakers on the IFW
Committee must hear from you before their work session on the
bill Tuesday, February 27.
Please urge lawmakers to maintain
the integrity of the list and base decisions not on politics but
on science, which clearly indicates that Barrow's goldeneye
should be listed. http://www.maineaudubon.org/act/070207_esa.shtml

success for one of Maine Audubon’s top legislative
priorities: a $25 million bond for riverfront community
revitalization. http://www.maineaudubon.org/conserve/legis/river_bond_facts.shtml
Significant Wildlife Habitat – Protecting
Shorebird Habitat
Despite the near unanimous support last session for
rules to protect significant wildlife habitat for migratory
shorebirds, multiple bills have been submitted this session to
repeal parts or all of the rules. http://www.maineaudubon.org/act/070223_swh.shtml
