Greetings, Join New Jersey Audubon's Sandy Hook Bird Observatory this weekend for two special events. Late October brings large flocks of Snow Geese, waterfowl, birds of prey, and shorebirds to the marshes of Brigantine (Forsythe) National Wildlife Refuge. Join Pete Bacinski on Saturday October 31 in search of some of many species that can be found here at one of the best times of year to visit this Important Bird Area. We'll also keep our fingers crossed that this year's Roseate Spoonbill will still be hanging around!
Showy Lady's Slipper (photo: Nancy Cooke) Many NJ residents are surprised to learn that the garden state is home to more than 50 species of native orchids. Join expert naturalist, photographer, and writer Rick Radis at the Monmouth Beach Cultural Center on Sunday November 1 for his "Orchids of New Jersey" presentation. While some of our orchids are small and nondescript, many rival their tropical counterparts in color, beauty, and the remarkable variety of their adaptations.
