Pass The Sabinoso Wilderness Act!
The legislative calendar in the Senate is very tight now, and time is running short for passage of the Sabinoso Wilderness Act of 2008. The bill passed the House on June 9, after Congressman Tom Udall (D-NM), the Bureau of Land Management and the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance worked for years with key local partners to craft the legislation.
Please take two minutes to encourage Senators Jeff Bingaman and Pete Domenici to act promptly for passage of this wilderness into law before year's end!
At 20,000 acres, Sabinoso is one of the finest intact Great-Plains ecosystems left in New Mexico. Located just 40 miles east of Las Vegas, New Mexico, Sabinoso is home to American kestrel, savannah sparrow, red-tailed hawk, broad tailed hummingbird, coyote, mountain lions, mule deer and gray foxes. It is a natural treasure that should be protected.
The Sabinoso Wilderness Act of 2008 enjoys broad support among federal agencies, local communities, ranchers, hunters, and conservationists. With time in the Senate running out, now is the time to urge your Senators to work hard for speedy passage of this excellent conservation legislation.

Subject: Sabinoso Wilderness
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
Wilderness is a cornerstone of our heritage.
The Sabinoso Wilderness Act is widely supported by local governments, business and economic development interests, sportsmen, conservation groups, and state officials. More specifically, the New Mexico State House of Representatives, San Miguel County Commission, Village of Wagon Mound, and the Town of Springer have passed resolutions supporting the designation of the Sabinoso wilderness.
Creating this area as a Wilderness will provide wonderful opportunities for sustainable economic development tied directly to open space.
Please work to pass the Sabinoso Wilderness Act of 2008 through the Senate this year.
Sincerely,
|
