Thank Congress For Supporting Wilderness
On January 15th, the Senate passed the Omnibus Public Land Management Act that will protect several important pieces of public land in New Mexico, including the Sabinoso Wilderness. This important legislation will designate over two million acres of wilderness in nine states, create a new 26 million acre National Landscape Conservation System, protect over a thousand miles of free-flowing rivers, and establish four new national conservation areas.
Please take a few minutes to thank your new Congressmen for supporting this important legislation and remind them that Wilderness is a priority for all of us in the Land of Enchantment.

Subject: Omnibus Public Lands Bill
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am writing to you today to thank you for your support of the Omnibus Lands Bill, which will designate the Sabinoso Wilderness Area, the Trackways National Monument outside of Las Cruces, Snowy River Cave Monument, and would also allow several major water projects to move forward, including for the Navajo Nation and the study of the Salt Basin Aquifer under Otero Mesa.
Though this bill failed to pass through the House, I encourage you to continue to stand up for our wildest public lands and to work to bring this piece of legislation back to the House for another vote. Your leadership on this issue is very important to me and I greatly appreciate your support.
Sincerely,
|

At 20,000 acres, Sabinoso is one of the finest intact Great-Plains ecosystems left in New Mexico. Located just 40 miles east of Las Vegas, New Mexico, Sabinoso is home to American kestrel, savannah sparrow, red-tailed hawk, broad tailed hummingbird, coyote, mountain lions, mule deer and gray foxes. It is a natural treasure that should be protected.
The Sabinoso Wilderness Act of 2008 enjoys broad support among federal agencies, local communities, ranchers, hunters, and conservationists. With time in the Senate running out, now is the time to urge your Senators to work hard for speedy passage of this excellent conservation legislation.
