Senate Stalemate is over. Take Action Now!

The stalemate is over: Let’s get down to business

After a month of inaction, the New York State Senate stalemate is over. Now let’s put the progressive agenda back in play. But we must move quickly: The Senate will meet this week for two days only – and may not meet again for months.

Our senators need to hear from you now. Tell them to bring to the floor and pass social justice legislation that would provide:

  • recognition of marriage rights for lesbians and gays;
  • clear, affirmative recognition of the right to reproductive choice;
  • paid family leave benefits;
  • the ability for family members, domestic partners, and close friends to make end-of-life decisions for incapacitated persons so no New Yorker goes through what Terri Schiavo and her family went through in Florida

Tell the Senate you want action on these key pieces of social justice legislation.

Subject: I've been waiting. Stand up for the social justice agenda.

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I urge you to take a stand for social justice and pass these crucial pieces of legislation before you go home for the summer:

- Marriage Fairness - The Reproductive Health Act - The Paid Family Leave Act - The Family Health Care Decisions Act

Other important civil liberties issues remain on the table and I'll be reaching out about those later in the summer. But for now, I urge you to do whatever it takes to enact these critical bills.

Sincerely,
