-------------------------------------------------------------- This
week marks the 8th anniversary of President Bush's signing of
the USA PATRIOT Act.
Since its passage, the NYCLU, the
ACLU, and our allies around the country have fought in the
courts, in Congress, and in our communities to fix this gross
violations of our rights that was rammed through Congress less
than two months after 9/11.
Congress now has a historic
opportunity to change the law and bring it in line with American
values. But our Congressional leaders have shown they will not
stand up for our rights if we don't make them.
As part of
the NYCLU's continuing Civil Liberties
Discussion Series, NYCLU Advocacy Director
Udi Ofer will provide an urgent update on how the
PATRIOT Act has been used over the past eight years, the
prospects for restoring Americans' rights by the end of the
year, and what you can do to help bring about that
change.
Please join us on Thursday, Nov.
5 at 7 p.m. in our offices at
125 Broad Street on the 19th
floor.
Following the presentation, we will
discuss how we can work together to finally change the PATRIOT
Act. Pizza will be provided to get the conversation
going.
Please make sure to RSVP by emailing discussionseries@nyclu.org
or calling (212) 607-3371.
