Tell ACOG, Don't Back Down!

A group of anti-choice doctors are pushing ACOG to weaken their position on conscientious refusals and the ACOG Executive Committee is instructing the Committee on Ethics to reevaluate their position!

Tell ACOG, don't back down! Don't let a loud minority undermine ACOG's position on conscientious refusals in reproductive healthcare.

Sample Letter for Campaign

Subject: I support ACOG Committee on Ethics Opinion #385

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am writing to express my support for the ACOG Committee on Ethics Committee Opinion #385.

Physicians have the duty to ensure that their patients have accurate information and are able to elect treatment based on science and current medical standards.

Sincerely,

Campaign Launched:
March 27, 2008

Background Information

Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt expressed "strong concern" over ACOG's statement calling for physicians who will not provide abortion or contraceptive services to offer medically accurate information and referrals to patients who decide to seek these services in a recent letter to the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Now a group of anti-choice doctors are pushing ACOG to weaken their position on conscientious refusals.

Tell ACOG, don't back down! Don't let a loud minority undermine ACOG's position on conscientious refusals in reproductive healthcare.

This NPR interview and this PRCH press release offer more background, and NPR also did a follow up story.
