Greetings,
Last week, I told you about an exciting, urgent
opportunity on July 9th for you to show your opposition
to the Sunrise Powerlink, a 150-mile, $1.3 billion boondoggle
that would allow the construction of intrusive electric
transmission towers through Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, the
Cleveland National Forest and the backyards of local residents.
The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), the
organization that will decide whether or not to build the
Sunrise Powerlink, is holding a hearing in San Diego on July
9th.
Today, I have more news about an excellent opportunity.
Our coalition members have
organized a pre-hearing rally at 9:00 a.m. in
order to show the CPUC that the public knows the Sunrise
Powerlink is a corporate giveaway that would ruin our cherished,
protected public lands while fattening the pockets of Sempra
investors. Because the public will not be submitting
comments during this July 9th hearing, it is essential to show our opposition to the
Powerlink by attending the 9:00 pre-hearing
rally with signs to tell the
CPUC there are smarter energy solutions for San Diego.
This is a big step forward in our fight to stop this project,
and will send a loud message to the CPUC Commissioners.
We need to make our voices heard and tell those
in charge that they have a long fight on their hands if they
expect the public to sacrifice pristine park land.
The rally will be held on July 9th at
9:00 outside of the Clerk of the Board
of Supervisors, 1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA.
If you can make it, please RSVP no later than July 8th by
emailing me at mmitrosky@sierraclubsandiego.org.
If you have already RSVPed, there is no reason to do it again
for the rally. Simply show up at 9:00 with your sign in
hand.
Hope to see you there!
Best,
Micah Mitrosky
