San Diego Smart Energy Solutions Campaign

Greetings,

This week, our campaign to defeat the Sunrise Powerlink held an exciting rally outside of the San Diego County Administration Building. The purpose of the rally was to send a message to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), who are meeting in San Diego this week, that the Sunrise Powerlink is the wrong solution to meet San Diego's long-term energy needs.

Our rally was a wonderful success with more than thirty attendees bearing signs and stickers. We even had local media coverage of the event appear on Fox6, KUSI and other stations Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

To all those who participated in the rally, a warm thank you! I enjoyed meeting each of you and look forward to seeing you again in the coming months as we continue this battle to secure Smart Energy Solutions for San Diego's future and to protect our parks and communities from the Sunrise Powerlink.

After the rally, opening arguments began inside of the San Diego County Administration Building to kick off the next three weeks of Evidentiary Hearings where each side will argue their position to the CPUC by submitting evidence and cross-examining witnesses in front of a judge.

The hearings are open to the public to observe and the schedule is as follows:

July 9-11: Clerk of the Board of Supervisors - South Board Chambers Room 310, 1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA

July 12-13: Clerk of the Board of Supervisors - South Board Chambers Room 358, 1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA

July 16-20:  San Diego Regional Energy Office, 8690 Balboa Avenue, Suite 100, San Diego, CA

July 23-26:  Clerk of the Board of Supervisors - South Board Chambers Room 358, 1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA

July 27: San Diego Regional Energy Office, 8690 Balboa Avenue, Suite 100, San Diego, CA

The strong legal showcase testifying in opposition to Sunrise will include the Sierra Club, Center for Biological Diversity, Communities United for Sensible Power (CUSP), Utility Consumers' Action Network (UCAN), the Division of Ratepayer Advocates (DRA), and the California State Parks Foundation, among others.

I will keep you posted as events unfold. Again, a big thank you to those who were able to make it to the rally.

Best,

Micah Mitrosky
