San Diego Smart Energy Solutions Campaign

Greetings,

Breaking News: Sunrise Powerlink Proceedings Delayed!

SDG&E's Errors Lead to Project Delays

This past week saw a small, but significant victory for our campaign! California Public Utilities Commsioner Dian Grueneich, the Commissioner in charge of the Sunrise Powerlink proceedings, announced her decision to significantly delay the proceedings because of glaring errors made by SDG&E. Specifically, SDG&E withheld vital information that the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) needs in order to fully evaluate the environmental impacts of the Sunrise Powerlink project.

Commssioner Grueneich's ruling postponed the final decision by at least six months, from January 2008 until at least June 2008. This is a small victory for us and is significant for several reasons:

1) She sharply critcized SDG&E's careless errors and countless delays in providing complete, vital information.

2) It means more time to build our valuable campaign to save Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, wilderness areas and local communities.

3) It sheds more light on SDG&E's flimsy claims that the project will carry renewable energy.

For more information about this ruling, read the San Diego Union-Tribune's coverage by clicking here and the North County Times' coverage by clicking here.

Even though we have been given more time, there is still much work to be done! We must continue our momentum at the Grassroots level to take advantage of the extra time and ensure victory for Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, protected wilderness areas and local communities.

I need your help to win this fight! Please sign-up to volunteer today by clicking here or by calling me at 619-299-1797. I look forward to hearing from you!

Best,

Micah
