San Diego Smart Energy Solutions Campaign

Greetings,

Assembly Member Lori Saldana, flanked by Zachary Schlagel of Congressman Filner's Office, City Council Member Donna Frye and Sierra Club activists, speaks out for smart energy solutions for San Diego.

Send a Letter-to-the-Editor of the Union-Tribune and North County Times today!

Yesterday marked an exciting milestone for the Sierra Club's San Diego Smart Energy Solutions Campaign to stop the harmful and destructive Sunrise Powerlink. Our campaign released a key report, San Diego Smart Energy 2020: The 21st Century Alternative. With an emphasis on efficiency, conservation and solar technology, this report proves there are reliable alternatives to the Sunrise Powerlink.

Our release garnered support from elected leaders at all levels of government including Congressman Bob Filner of Congressional District 51; Assembly Member Lori Saldana of the 76th Assembly District; Imperial County Supervisor Joe Maruca and City Council Member Donna Frye.

To read Union-Tribune coverage of the report release, click here. For North County Times coverage, click here and for coverage from the Voice of San Diego, click here.

As usual, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) chose to inaccurately spin the main findings of the report; they are clearly on the defensive and grasping at straws to defend the ill-fated Sunrise Powerlink project. We won't let them get away with misleading the public. You can help amplify our message that San Diego Smart Energy 2020 is the smart energy solution for San Diego by writing a Letter-to-the-Editor of the Union-Tribune and North County TimesHelpful tips, contact information and talking points are outlined below.

SEND A MESSAGE TO LOCAL LEADERS - WRITE A LETTER-TO-THE-EDITOR!

WHO: letters@uniontrib.com and letters@nctimes.com

WHAT: Letters must be less than 200 words and include full name, address and phone number.

TALKING POINTS:

  • San Diego Smart Energy 2020 offers cost-effective regional energy solutions that give us clean, local energy independence.
  • The troubled Sunrise Powerlink project promises imported fossil-fuels from overseas, increased air pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, it would permanently disfigure Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, bissect other protected lands and harm local communities.
  • San Diego Smart Energy 2020 will position San Diego as a leader in California's 21st Century clean energy future. SDG&E's proposal is a tired, antiquated "business as usual" approach to energy planning.

After you send your letter-to-the-editor, feel free to email your letter to me in a SEPARATE email at mmitrosky@sierraclubsandiego.org. If you copy me when you send your letter-to-the-editor, it's less likely to be published.

Best,

Micah

P.S. Stay tuned for more exciting campaign happenings next week when we launch our new campaign web site!
