The past few
weeks have been exciting for the Sierra Club's San Diego Smart
Energy Solutions Campaign to defeat Sunrise
Powerlink and save Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, The Cleveland
National Forest and cherished backcountry communities from this
unnecessary boondoggle!
In late
November, one of San Diego Gas & Electric's (SDG&E)
partners, Imperial Irrigation District, withdrew support
for the Sunrise Powerlink project, citing environmental
and agricultural concerns about SDG&E's preferred route.

the story in the San Diego Union-Tribune.
And just this
week, The Voice of San Diego online news magazine hosted
Bill Powers on its daily "Cafe San Diego" show to discuss viable
alternatives to this harmful project. To read his
insightful article, "Power to the People," please

Mr. Powers is an
engineer and author of our visionary alternative to
Sunrise Powerlink, "San Diego Smart Energy 2020: The 21st
Century Solution." You can access the full
report by clicking HERE, then click on "Full
Report."
Finally,
we are gearing up for the release of the Sunrise Powerlink
Environmental Impact Report, the primary environmental document
for the decision-makers, in just a few weeks.
There will be a key public comment period once this report is
released, and we will need your help to send a
message to Public Officials and the California Public Utilities
Commission that Sunrise Powerlink is the wrong choice for San
Diego.
Once the report is released, we will of course keep you
posted about upcoming Organizing Meetings, Critical
Dates and Grassroots Opportunities, which are just around
the corner!
Best,
Micah
