San Diego Smart Energy Solutions Campaign

Greetings,

Assembly Member Lori Saldaña, flanked by Zachary Schlagel of Congressman Filner's Office, City Council Member Donna Frye and Sierra Club activists, speaks out for smart energy solutions for San Diego.

Send your letter to the Editor of the Union-Tribune and North County Times today!

I have exciting news to share and a special favor to ask on behalf of our San Diego Smart Energy Solutions campaign to protect Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, the Cleveland National Forest and local communities from SDG&E's unnecessary, destructive Sunrise Powerlink proposal!

This week, the state and federal government's key document (DEIR/DEIS) that examines the environmental impacts of the proposed Sunrise Powerlink and potential alternatives was released. Their findings dealt a blow to SDG&E and a boost to smart energy! The government's report concluded there are viable, environmentally responsible ways to deliver power to our region other than the destructive Sunrise Powerlink.

To read San Diego Union-Tribune coverage of the report, click here and to read the article in the North County Times, click here.

Now, I need your help to send a message to local leaders and decision makers that this report is on target - we don't need Sunrise Powerlink.  We all know there are smarter energy solutions. Please do your part to protect our park, forests and local communities from the proposed Sunrise Powerlink by writing a letter to the Editors of the Union-Tribune and the North County Times! This simple, effective action helps our public officials understand that we don't need Sunrise Powerlink!

Helpful tips, contact information and talking points about how to write a letter to the Editor are outlined below:

WHO: letters@uniontrib.com and letters@nctimes.com

WHAT: Letters must be less than 150 words and include full name, address and phone number.

TALKING POINTS:

  • The recent release of the Sunrise Powerlink Draft Environmental Impact Report underscores there are better ways to provide clean, reliable energy to San Diego other than this polluting transmission project.
  • Sunrise Powerlink promises to deliver imported, fossil-fueled power that will add to global warming.  And, it is a bad deal for ratepayers. This report emphasizes we don't need this boondoggle.
  • As outlined in this document, the safe, sensible approach to regional energy planning is to increase local production, not build more risky transmission lines.

After you send your letter to the Editor, feel free to email your letter to me in a SEPARATE email at mmitrosky@sierraclubsandiego.org. Don't copy me when you send your letter, because it's less likely to be published.

Best,

Micah

P.S. Send a letter to the Editors of the Union-Tribune and North County Times today! This simple, effective action helps amplify our message to public officials that we don't need Sunrise Powerlink!
