Greetings,
This week was an exciting time for the Sierra Club's San Diego Smart Energy Solutions Campaign to protect local communities, Anza-Borrego and the Cleveland National Forest from the unnecessary, devastating Sunrise Powerlink. Approximately 1,000 activists packed Public Hearings from the city to the backcountry to the desert to send a message that we have smarter energy alternatives than the Sunrise Powerlink. Thank you to those who attended, wrote letters, phone banked and came to Community Briefings. Your hard work shows that when people come together to do simple effective things, it pays off. During the Hearings, young and old alike testified that local communities and protected open spaces are too precious to lose to an unnecessary, fossil-fueled proposal that does nothing to increase reliability or renewable energy. Each told a unique story, but all shared the common theme that this project is a step backward for San Diego when we know there are cleaner, reliable alternatives that will boost our local economy and minimize fire risk.
Again, many thanks to those who volunteered and attended the California Public Utilities Commission Hearings.
