San Diego Smart Energy Solutions Campaign

Greetings,

Activists Gathered at a Recent Rally to Support Smart Energy Alternatives to Sunrise Powerlink

Call or write Senator Kehoe today - thank her for her letter and urge her to oppose Sunrise Powerlink in its entirety in order to secure a smarter energy future for San Diego!

I have exciting news about the Sierra Club's San Diego Smart Energy Solutions Campaign to protect local communities, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and the Cleveland National Forest from the unnecessary, devastating Sunrise Powerlink. California State Senator Christine Kehoe, 39th District and Chair of the Senate Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee, recently took the lead in bringing together colleagues in the State Legislature to join her in signing a letter opposing Sunrise Powerlink through Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. To read the letter, please click HERE.

Senator Kehoe deserves a warm thank you for taking this excellent first step to secure a smart energy future for San Diego. Now, we need to share with her that our San Diego Smart Energy 2020 proposal provides a better path than Sunrise Powerlink to clean, reliable energy while creating "green collar" jobs!

Please do your part to stop Sunrise Powerlink and secure a smarter energy future for San Diego by calling or writing Senator Kehoe today! Suggested talking points and contact information are below:

TALKING POINTS:

  • Thank you for your leadership in opposing Sunrise Powerlink through Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.
  • Please take the next step to protect our region from this unnecessary, fossil-fueled project that will increase global warming greenhouse gases by opposing it in its entirety.
  • No matter where it is built, Sunrise Powerlink will increase fire risk and harm local communities. San Diegans lose while Sempra investors gain.
  • There are smarter energy alternatives that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create a new green energy economy in the region, such as San Diego Smart Energy 2020 a "distributed generation" model.
  • The Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) confirms Sunrise Powerlink is a fire danger that increases greenhouse gases. This same report lists smarter energy alternatives - please support the findings of the DEIR and oppose Sunrise in its entirety.
