On behalf of the Sierra Club's San Diego Smart Energy Solutions campaign to protect local communities, Anza-Borrego and the Cleveland National Forest from the devastating Sunrise Powerlink, I'd like to invite you to our upcoming Community Mobilization Meeting.

At the meeting, a former California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) insider will talk about about the one action you can take this spring to stop the unnecessary Sunrise Powerlink and secure a smart energy future for San Diego.

Our Keynote speaker will be Martha Sullivan, a former 20-year staff person at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). Her career at the CPUC spanned several departments and titles, including senior Environmental Impact Report (EIR) project manager.  During this time, she managed the preparation of several EIRs on large utility infrastructure applications, including electricity transmission projects. Attend our meeting to hear her unique perspective on the Sunrise Powerlink project and what simple, effective things you can do to stop it and ensure better energy alternatives that preserve our local communities and open spaces.

P.S. EXTRA EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT! The San Diego Union-Tribune dropped a bombshell over the weekend when it reported on the 2004 backroom meeting between local San Diego leaders and SDG&E to discuss the Sunrise Powerlink proposal. The group decided if the project were marketed as a "renewable" energy proposal, elected officials would be more likely to support it. Sound familiar? This is exactly what SDG&E/Sempra Energy have been selling us in their costly PR blitz.  To read the whole story, click HERE.
