Dear Friend:

I want to let you know about two great opportunities to get outdoors and enjoy the natural open space and cultural heritage that you have helped to protect from the Foothill-South toll road.

This Sunday, April 19th, from 11AM to 5PM, come to the San Mateo Campground in San Onofre State Beach to celebrate Earth Day at Panhe, the historical home of the Juaneno/Acjachemen people.

The celebration features Native American singers, dancers, and speakers, including a Flute Circle from 9:30 to 11:30 AM.  Enjoy basketry and native plants demonstrations along with native foods, guided walks, and children's games.

Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate the protection of Panhe, which continues to be used as a ceremonial and reburial site.  The event is sponsored by the United Coalition to Protect Panhe and the Sierra Club.

Parking is limited, so please carpool and park at the Trestles parking lot and along Cristianitos and access the campground from there.  For more information contact Rebecca Robles at rebrobles1@gmail.com .

The following weekend on Saturday April 25th, get out and enjoy the natural beauty of the Donna O'Neill Land Conservancy.  This hike, sponsored by the Friends of the Foothills and the Sierra Sage group of the Sierra Club, is a three mile route with a fifty foot gain in elevation.

On this slow-paced nearly level walk, you'll learn about the ecological importance of the Donna O'Neill Land Conservancy and the surrounding area and the risk to these lands from the Foothill-South Toll Road.

Meet 8:30 am at South Orange County ride-share point.  Donation of $10 to support the work of the DOLC is appreciated.  Bring water. Rain cancels.  Ldr. DOLC  Asst.: Paul Carlton.  For more information, please contact Ed Schlegel at eschlegel@cox.net .

South OC ride-share point: Ortega Plaza parking lot SE corner, Ortega Hwy/Rancho Viejo, San Juan Capistrano.

Thanks as always for protecting--and celebrating--our natural and cultural heritage.

Sincerely,

Bill Corcoran
