Save Your Ohio Scenic Rivers!
Ohio's Scenic Rivers program may be on the verge of death!
Take action now by using the form at right.
Even though Ohio boasts the oldest and best Scenic Rivers programs in the nation . . . and even though Governor Strickland has proposed to fund Scenic Rivers mostly with revenue from canoe and kayak users (instead of general tax dollars). . . some State Senators want to kill its funding!
If the Scenic Rivers program dies, Ohioans will lose out on:
- 40 years of investment in Ohio's most scenic and wild rivers; and
- the distinction of having the first and most successful Scenic Rivers program in the nation.
Your State Senator in Columbus needs to hear from you – TODAY.

Subject: Keep the proposed funding for Ohio's Scenic River program!
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
Please don't let Ohio's Scenic Rivers program die!
Please continue to protect these wild and scenic rivers as proposed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources with registration fees and other revenue collected on canoes and kayaks (as included in the Ohio House-passed version of the state budget bill).
Ohio's Scenic Rivers are a treasure belonging to all Ohioans. They provide wonderful recreational opportunities and much needed income to local communities surrounding them.
According to studies:
- Visitors to the Little Miami Scenic River spend an average of $30 in the local community with every visit.
- A bike trail along a Scenic River, in just one county, contributes at least $2 million to the local economy (avg. $13.54/trip)
- Property values increase, the closer a home is located to a State Scenic River.
Last year marked the 40th anniversary of Ohio's Scenic Rivers program - the oldest in the nation. But without funding, it will dry up and die. Please don't embarrass Ohio by letting that happen.
My family and I look forward to your reply.
Sincerely,
|
