Take Action

Clean Water at Risk in Ohio!

When you turn on the tap, you expect safe drinking water.

When you read about coal mining, you trust that streams won't turn orange from acid-mine drainage.

And when you plan a weekend getaway, you assume that Ohio's State Scenic and Wild Rivers will always be there for you to enjoy.

Believe it or not, adequate funding for clean water protections is up for grabs in Ohio's next state operating budget!

Take action today! Email or call your State Representative and Senator:

  1. Send an email now using the easy form at right.
  2. Call their offices at 1-800-282-0253.
  3. Send the link to this page to three friends in Ohio and ask them to help, too!

State lawmakers in Columbus have extended the deadline to adopt a new two-year budget - and they STILL can't decide how big a priority clean water should be!

The Ohio House of Representatives has approved — but the Ohio Senate rejected — fee increases on landfill waste, coal extraction, and waterway conservation to fund critical clean water efforts. Unless lawmakers reach a compromise or find another revenue source, Ohio's clean water programs may be severely compromised:

  • Safe drinking water may be at risk.
  • Fewer inspectors will be around to keep watch on coal mining sites.
  • Ohio's State Scenic Rivers program may be killed.

Don't let our lawmakers put our water at risk. Take action now!

Subject: Vote YES for Clean Water!

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

Vote YES for clean water by voting YES to approve the proposed fee increases on landfill waste, coal extraction, and waterway conservation in the state operating budget.

When I turn on the tap, I expect safe drinking water.

When I read about coal mining, I trust that no more streams will turn orange from acid-mine drainage.

And when I plan a weekend getaway, I assume Ohio's State Scenic and Wild Rivers will always be there for me to enjoy.

That's why I am shocked to learn that adequate funding for clean water protections is up for grabs in Ohio's next operating budget.

Unless the Ohio House and Ohio Senate reach a compromise on these proposed fees or find another revenue source, these clean water programs may be severely compromised. Learn more at http://www.theOEC.org/newsroom.htm.

Please vote YES for clean water.

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,
