Take Action

Speak up to protect Ohio's air quality!

Have you ever been near a construction site and breathed the fumes from the diesel vehicles?

It's not just unpleasant - it's bad for your health!

Help us protect Ohio's air quality by making sure that vehicles and construction equipment working on taxpayer-funded projects are clean!

This week in the Congressional House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, there is sign-on letter that urges the Committee Chair to include language that would require strong air protections on federally funded construction projects of $2 million and greater.

With your help, Representative Latta can sign on to this important letter. The Transportation Reauthorization Bill should require that construction vehicles and equipment working on taxpayer-funded projects are clean and upgraded with pollution filters if needed.

Contact Representative Latta today to urge him to support this language to create clean air construction standards.

Please take action now! The deadline for this language to be included in the Transportation Reauthorization Bill is Friday!

Subject: Please protect Ohio's air quality

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

Nearly one third of Ohio's counties fail to meet federal clean air standards.

Diesel emissions contribute to this problem. They are a major source of particle pollution and ozone pollution.

Diesel construction equipment makes up 21% of the state's diesel sources for particle pollution.

By reducing these emissions we are taking a step to meeting the air quality requirements as well as avoiding the health impacts of diesel emissions which include asthma attacks, heart and lung disease, cancer, and early death.

By spending a fraction of Transportation Reauthorization Bill funds on installing pollution-reducing filters in diesel construction, we help ensure the public is protected from preventable, harmful diesel pollution. And that a community's air quality does not take a step backward when a transportation project is being built.

Please sign onto the "Dear Colleague" letter circulating by Rep. Hall urging the Chair of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to include the installation of pollution-reducing filters in diesel construction projects.

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,
