Stop Hate in Michigan !! Call your State Representative!!

The House Judiciary Committee passed the hate crime bills last week that included sexual orientation and gender identity.  This was thanks in no small part to those organizations, including Triangle Foundation, that sent in letters of support on very short notice.

The bills were then referred to the House floor with a recommendation for a yes vote.  We anticipate that the full HOUSE WILL VOTE ON THE BILLS THIS COMING WEDNESDAY, May 20th.  Please contact your state representative just letting them know you support HB 4836.

Subject: I support HB 4836

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

Please support HB 4836.

Michigan needs an inclusive anti-bias law. The legislation would update the law to include protection on the basis of "sexual orientation, gender identity or expression of gender" and "disability".

It would also update the statute to apply whether the victim turns out to be a member of the targeted group or not (it's about motive).

Don't believe people who want you to act out of fear. Broaden this law to include those people who are marginalized most often. Be the representative who wants to protect all of Michigan's citizens from hate.

Sincerely,
