Please join my partner, Dr. David Beighley, and me as our guest to experience the exhibit “Focus on the Family” – an interactive video installation exposing violence against the LGBT community. My family participated in this project, and we would love to be able to share this exhibit with you.
Kim Roberts, a professor at Grand Valley State University, took a year sabbatical to study evil. This art installation is the result of that work. The stories told in this installation expose the mean-spirited dehumanization of our human family and reveal the cultural, political, psychological, and personal consequences of hate crime in our society.
Ultimately, the work attempts to “re-humanize” the victims and asks all participants to reflect on the stories told and assess their own complicity in the ongoing discrimination and abuse of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals.
The artist, Kim Roberts, will be on hand to answer any questions and hear about your experience of her work. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring friends and educate them about the impact of hate crimes on individuals, families, communities, and our society as well as learn more about the important anti-violence work of Triangle Foundation.
We hope you will join us!
(There is a parking garage on the corner of Ionia and Louis directly across the street from the building entrance .)
